LEONIDAS

Low Earth Orbit Navigation & Integrated Dosimetry Analysis System

LEONIDAS is a turn-key platform under development which predicts dose imparted by space radiation to crews and electronics at low-earth orbit. LEONIDAS links outputs from six separate models to simulate the radiation environment, geomagnetic modulation, and particle transport at optimized points along an input orbital profile. The platform utilizes high performance computer systems (e.g. supercomputers), 3D Monte Carlo particle transport, and advanced numerical methods, facilitating rapid and accurate health risk assessment for any vehicle along any orbital path in low-earth orbit.

Example output of LEONIDAS

Ground track of a high inclination (67.6 degrees) sample orbit plotted onto a Plate Carree projection of the globe. Information along the orbit contain vehicle altitude, gps coordinates, and time stamp information. LEONIDIS also provides both the integral and differential dose along with the particle spectrum.
